Artificial intelligence in advertising
The production cost of advertising material has collapsed. What has not changed is that a good brief and a real idea are still the scarce inputs.
Future of Advertising
Streaming audio reaches people during activities where no screen is available. That is its whole advantage and it dictates the creative.

Streaming audio has grown into a substantial channel that reaches people at moments no screen-based medium can: driving, exercising, cooking, working.
| Format | Character |
|---|---|
| Streaming music service spots | broad reach, targetable |
| Podcast host-read | highest trust, highest effect |
| Podcast produced spot | scalable, weaker |
| Audio in gaming and apps | growing, younger audience |
| Smart speaker sponsorship | limited, cautious platforms |
| Voice assistant advertising | marginal, high rejection |
The first three carry almost all of the spend. The last two are frequently discussed and rarely bought.
The listener has no screen and often no hands free.
One message. Name the brand at least twice. Never use a web address requiring spelling. If there is a code word, make it a real word. Slower delivery than feels natural when writing. And a sound signature repeated across campaigns, which builds recognition faster than words.
Unlike broadcast radio, streaming audio can target by location, by listening behaviour, by device, by time of day and by activity signals.
The most useful in practice: geographic precision for local businesses, and daypart targeting matched to the activity. The commute, the gym and the evening at home are different audiences even when they are the same person.
Impressions and completion rates are reported and are largely a property of the format, since audio is rarely skipped.
What actually indicates effect: spoken codes, dedicated addresses that are memorable, brand search volume during and after the flight, and post-purchase survey questions.
Some platforms offer device-matched attribution, which works partially and should be treated as directional.
Advertising on voice assistants has been restricted by the platforms, partly because early tests produced strong negative reactions. An unexpected advertisement from a device in the kitchen is experienced differently from one in a music stream.
Where it exists, it takes the form of sponsorship of a skill or a brief mention in a content feed. The volumes are small.
Worth watching for the moment when platforms open it further, not worth building a plan around now.
For a local business, streaming audio on a music service with tight geographic targeting is the accessible starting point. Budgets from a few hundred pounds a month reach a defined area.
Combine with a memorable phone number or a short address, and measure with a dedicated line. Audio response is immediate and short-lived; watch the hours after transmission, not the weekly total.
Targeting by listener rather than by station and daypart, plus digital measurement. The creative rules are the same.
Limited and cautiously. The platforms have restricted it heavily because listeners react badly.

Cheap, fast and legally unsettled. Three rules keep the saving without acquiring a problem you cannot see yet.
