Advertising for removal companies

A once-in-a-decade purchase decided in a fortnight, with three quotations and no loyalty. The advertising has to be present at exactly the right moment.

Key points

  • The trigger is the signed tenancy or sale; be findable in the two weeks after it.
  • Fixed prices beat hourly rates for consumer moves, decisively.
  • Business and office relocation is the steady, profitable half.

Nobody plans a removal for long. The trigger event is a signed contract, and the search begins within days of it.

Be there at the trigger

Three visible channels cover almost all of it: search advertising and map results for the town pairs people search, reviews, and referral from whoever handled the property transaction.

The third is the one most firms neglect and the one with the best economics. An estate agent handling 200 transactions a year is worth more than any campaign.

The removal decision follows the property decision by about four days. Whoever is standing next to the estate agent is already in the conversation.

Fixed price against hourly rate

Hourly pricing is standard and disliked. The customer cannot budget, fears being slow-walked, and compares quotations that are not comparable.

A fixed price after a survey, whether in person or by video, removes all three objections and converts substantially better. It also protects margin, because the survey catches the third-floor flat with no lift before the day rather than on it.

What the quotation must answer

Customer questionWhat to state
What exactly is includedpacking, dismantling, reassembly, materials
What is notitemised
Insurancecover level and excess, in figures
Timingarrival window, expected duration
What if it takes longerhow overruns are handled
Damagethe process, not just the promise

The last two are where disputes come from and where a clear answer wins the job.

The business segment

Office and commercial relocation is steadier, better paid and largely won through direct contact rather than advertising: facilities managers, office agents, IT relocation partners.

It also has a different requirement, namely working outside business hours and to a fixed completion time. Firms that can guarantee a weekend turnaround with the network live on Monday morning command a premium.

Content that generates enquiries early

People search about moving weeks before they search for a mover: checklists, notification lists, packing advice, what to do about the utilities.

That content collects the customer at the start rather than at the comparison stage, which is the only point at which you are not competing purely on price.

Reviews carry unusual weight

A removal involves strangers handling everything a household owns. Trust is the product.

Photographs of the actual crew, named, with the vehicle, do more for conversion in this trade than any other single element, because they answer the unspoken question of who is coming into the house.

Frequently asked questions

Should prices be published?

A calculator with a realistic range, yes. An exact figure without a survey is not possible and pretending otherwise causes disputes.

How do you get repeat business in a trade with no repeat customers?

Through estate agents, letting agents, employers and property managers. They move people constantly.

Advertising for trade businesses

Most trade firms have too much work and too few staff. That inverts the entire advertising brief, and almost nobody adjusts for it.

Small callouts pay poorly and fill the diary. Advertising should be aimed at the three job types that actually carry the business.
