Advertising for trade businesses
Most trade firms have too much work and too few staff. That inverts the entire advertising brief, and almost nobody adjusts for it.

A customer who buys once, at seventeen, on a recommendation from a friend, and researches on a phone. Three facts that decide the whole approach.

Driving schools sell to seventeen-year-olds who ask their friends, and to parents who pay and worry about cost.
The standard practice of advertising a low price per lesson and adding compulsory elements, test fees and materials produces the sector's most common complaint.
A page showing the realistic total for an average learner, with the number of lessons typically needed and every additional cost itemised, is unusual and converts strongly with parents.
Where pass rate data is available and yours is above average, it is the most persuasive claim in the category and almost nobody uses it.
State it precisely, with the period and the number of tests. Vague claims about high pass rates are discounted; a specific figure with a sample size is not.
| Measure | Effect |
|---|---|
| Ask at the moment of passing | very high |
| A small reward for a referred enrolment | high |
| A photograph with the certificate, shared with consent | high |
| A review request the same day | very high |
| Instructor named in the review | high |
The moment of passing is the peak of goodwill in the entire relationship and lasts about a day. Everything should be organised around capturing it.
Learners choose an instructor, not a school. Show them individually: name, photograph, how long they have taught, their manner, which vehicle they use, and whether they teach in other languages.
Anxious learners in particular choose on perceived patience, and that is communicable.
Intensive courses, nervous-driver tuition, refresher lessons for returning drivers, and instruction in additional languages are all higher-value segments with less competition.
Older learners and returning drivers are a growing, underserved and less price-sensitive group.
Search for the town plus driving school, map results with reviews, and the schools themselves. A presence at the secondary school, with permission, reaches the entire cohort at the moment they become eligible.
Parents respond to different content than learners: safety, structure, total cost, and communication about progress.
Automatic transmission availability, pick-up from home or school, evening and weekend slots, and how long the wait is for a test. Each is a decision factor and each is frequently absent from school websites.
Only alongside a realistic total. Low lesson prices with high totals is the sector's most common complaint.
Friends, then search, then social. Parents influence the decision more than schools assume.

Roofing demand is weather-driven, seasonal, and half of it is an emergency. Three different campaigns, not one.

Small callouts pay poorly and fill the diary. Advertising should be aimed at the three job types that actually carry the business.
