Advertising for trade businesses
Most trade firms have too much work and too few staff. That inverts the entire advertising brief, and almost nobody adjusts for it.
Industries
A category where the customer expects to be cheated, based on considerable evidence. The advertising problem is entirely a trust problem.

Vehicle buying services occupy the same reputational space as emergency locksmiths: a legitimate service damaged by operators who quote one figure and pay another.
The practice that defines the category is the offer reduced at collection, when the seller has already committed mentally and has no alternative present.
The differentiator is to state, prominently, that the quoted figure holds subject to specified conditions, and to list exactly which conditions change it and by how much.
| Factor | Effect on price |
|---|---|
| Mileage against average | stated per 10,000 |
| Service history complete or partial | stated deduction |
| Number of previous keepers | stated |
| Bodywork damage | stated per panel |
| Tyres below minimum | stated per tyre |
| Outstanding finance | how it is handled |
That table is unusual in the sector and is exactly what makes it persuasive. It converts an opaque negotiation into an arithmetic the seller can verify.
Sellers are usually under time pressure: a new vehicle arriving, a move, a change in circumstances.
An unambiguous commitment, such as payment cleared before the vehicle leaves the address, is the most valuable thing you can promise and the easiest to prove in reviews.
This is a high-intent category. People search when they have decided to sell, often with the model and the town.
The campaign structure follows: model-specific pages with realistic price ranges, location pages for the collection radius, and a valuation form that is short enough to complete on a phone.
Long forms lose this traffic. Registration, mileage and a photograph is enough to open the conversation.
In a distrusted category, third-party reviews carry more weight than anything you say. Ask every seller at the point of payment, when satisfaction is highest, and respond to every negative review with the specific facts.
A pattern of reviews saying the quoted price was paid without argument is worth more than any advertising claim.
Consumer protection rules apply to the valuation process, and misleading price indications are actionable. Where the business also sells vehicles, the obligations around disclosure, warranty and distance selling apply as well and are frequently overlooked in this sector.
A range should be binding subject to the stated condition. Quoting high and reducing on inspection is why the sector is distrusted.
Search, almost entirely, on the vehicle model plus the intent to sell. It is an intent-driven category.

Roofing demand is weather-driven, seasonal, and half of it is an emergency. Three different campaigns, not one.

Small callouts pay poorly and fill the diary. Advertising should be aimed at the three job types that actually carry the business.
